Gail S Kotowski
Guild Certified Awareness Through Movement® Teacher
Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner
Guild Certified Sounder Sleep System® Practitioner

My journey to the Feldenkrais Method began after a traumatic snowmobile accident in 2005. I sustained a concussion, multiple vertebral and rib fractures, a collapsed lung, and numerous muscle and ligament injuries. Because I chose a non-surgical path to recovery, healing was gradual and required patience, determination, and trust in my body's ability to recover.
To rebuild my strength, I walked up to seven miles each day and focused on restoring my health. Before the accident, I had been active in Tae Kwon Do, downhill skiing, and tennis. While physical therapy helped me recover function, I knew I needed something more—something that would help calm my nervous system and reconnect me with my whole self.
A friend introduced me to the Feldenkrais Method, and I was fortunate to find a teacher nearby. Through Awareness Through Movement® classes and Functional Integration® lessons, I discovered a new way of learning through movement. The lessons helped me move with greater ease, reduce unnecessary effort, and regain confidence in my body. What began as part of my recovery became a lifelong practice.

About the Feldenkrais Method®
Systematic Approach to Improve Movement with Ease and Without Effort
The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the life they want. You can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. Since how you move is how you move through life, these improvements will often enhance your thinking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving capabilities.
The Feldenkrais Method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics, and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. Moshe Feldenkrais said, “We move according to our perceived self-image.” By expanding your perception and increasing awareness, you will become more aware of your habits and tensions and develop new ways of moving. By increasing sensitivity, the Feldenkrais Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently, and comfortably.
You can experience the Feldenkrais Method in two ways.
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM®) lessons are taught in a group or one on one setting, with students following the verbal instructions of the teacher. ATM lessons are provided by Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionersCM, Certified Feldenkrais ATM TeachersCM and authorized trainees.
Functional Integration® (FI®)sessions are one on one lessons where the fully clothed student is guided through touch, movement and verbal instruction. FI lessons are provided by Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioners.

About the Sounder Sleep System®
Somatic Solution for Insomnia and Anxiety
The Sounder Sleep System®, created by Michael Krugman, is a gentle, drug-free approach to improving sleep and reducing stress. Drawing on principles from the Feldenkrais Method®, yoga, qigong, meditation, and contemporary sleep science, the system uses small, slow, mindful movements coordinated with natural breathing to help shift the nervous system from a state of alertness to one of deep rest.
The method includes daytime practices that help reduce stress and tension, as well as nighttime "Mini-Moves" that can ease the transition into sleep and support returning to sleep after awakening. Rather than forcing sleep, the Sounder Sleep System® creates the conditions in which the body's natural capacity for restorative rest can emerge.
At its heart, the Sounder Sleep System® teaches that when the body becomes quieter, softer, and more at ease, the mind often follows—and restful sleep can arise naturally.

“I highly recommend working with Gail. She talked me through the sessions to ensure I was comfortable and what the purpose was for the movements. I felt a noticeable difference after in my tenseness as well as in my knee mobility and pain.”
Christina from CT
After my session with Gail, I noticed that I had less pain and my breathing was much easier ."
Helen from NC
I had never heard of the Feldenkrais method of therapy for your body before Gail (began to tell me how much it had helped her. Because I have multiple flexibility issues causing pain, I thought maybe it would help me. Since there are no practitioners of the method near me, I followed her journey to getting certified for the therapy. Finally, long awaited visit to her resulted in a session. As she gently talked me through the movements, I began feeling a little easement for some chronic discomfort, especially in my neck. The beauty of this method is in its simplicity. I noticed not only an immediate improvement in my neck, especially, but all over. I felt relaxed and certainly less pain after this one session. Thank you, Gail, for introducing me to the benefits of Feldenkrais.
Charlotte from NC
"Gail has a gentle spirit and I felt very comfortable in her hands. After the session, I felt much lighter and more together in walking. I slept very well that night".
Janis from NC
Gail's knowledge & practice of the Feldenkrais method have helped me a lot recently with an acute injury to my tailbone & subsequent sciatica - so painful! As I lay in bed in the morning or upon waking up in the middle of the night, I start doing some slow, but purposeful movements she showed me to help ease the pain and get my mind refocused off where my body is hurting…🙏
Barbara from NC
I was lucky enough to work with Gail while she was training. I didn’t know what to expect from this bodywork and found it to completely relaxing. My nervous system is always calmer after a session. One of the sessions I began releasing some stored emotions in the form of shivering. Gail walked me through this release and helped me to understand why I was experiencing this. I still feel a deep sense of comfort from that release. I have been getting massage therapy for at least 30 years and this type of bodywork is profound.
